Tropicanada

Beautiful spot for Tropicana. Really nicely done. The song, "The Great Escape", is by the fantastic Patrick Watson.

Jamie Oliver's Ted Prize Wish

I think it's so fantastic that Jamie Oliver won the Ted Prize this year. I've always been a fan of his simple approach to food. It's so much more attainable. For the last several years, he's been focused on teaching kids how to cook again. This prize should further that goal quite nicely.

If you haven't watched the video yet, it's a must see.  Also, go follow Jamie on Twitter.

The Morning Benders "Excuses"

Yours Truly presents a tasty little video of The Morning Benders recording "Excuses" with about 50 of their closest friends/musical acquaintances. This little gem was pointed out to me by Aaron, and he's absolutely right— this looks like it was a lot of fun.

Gravity

Just returned from a brief trip to Dublin, Ireland. A whole bunch of photos coming from that, as I get the time, but here is a quick one. It was taken from the Gravity Bar above the Guinness Brewery as the sun was setting. We happened to be there on a really clear day. What an amazing view.

The Third & The Seventh

Click to watch The Third & The Seventh in HD on VimeoConsider this the first "must watch" video of the year. By comparison, it might also be the last.  The Third & The Seventh, by Alex Roman, is an astonishing accomplishment in CG. Normally I'd embed it here, but it really needs to be watched in HD (fullscreen is basically mandatory).

Vesper Typeface

The new Vesper typeface shows great promise for a lot of different scenarios. I like the quirky details that show up at larger sizes, and I'm a pushover for a large x-height. The best part? A font-face friendly version is coming soon.  Hopefully this is a trend we'll see more of moving forward.

Be sure to check out the description of the creative process behind the typeface, or just go buy it.

73 Mockups, 48 Days

Over the last 48 days, I've been storing my mockups in a folder on my desktop in hopes of doing something like this. And so here it is.

Each of the 73 crops above are from individual mockups delivered within the last 48 days, shown in alphabetical order according to filename. If you spot some runs of consistency in color and texture, that is due to some projects being represented by multiple mockups.

I hope you enjoy this somewhat obscure sneak peak into the project pipeline at Electric Pulp.

UBU - Learning within what appears to be a very evil building.

UBU Library - Utrecht University

The UBU Library, located on the campus of Utrecht University (Utrecht, The Netherlands). Ominous much?

I'm happy to report that the repeating textured tiles don't bother me here, particularly in the poured, black concrete on the interior. They seem to work better in this application compared to what I've seen on other buildings, like the Walker (Minneapolis, MN). They tend to cheapen, in my opinion. Not here. Maybe it's that they're concrete, giving me a warm Frank Lloyd Wright feeling, deep down... next to where my wannabe architect lives.

It's an impressive building for sure, but I wouldn't be surprised to find out that it gains its power from human souls. Learners beware.
